DIY Stovetop Potpourri

November 17, 2021

Stovetop potpourris (also known as a simmer pots) are SO easy to put together, and they make the entire house smell amazing! You can use any combination of ingredients that you like, but I’ll share one of my personal favorites below. Chances are, you have some of these ingredients already in your kitchen! With this recipe you’ll have the spicy smell of cinnamon mixed with the sweet smell of vanilla and citrus – it’s absolutely perfect for the holiday season! This is also a great way to use older apples, oranges, herbs and spices that are on the verge of being tossed. Make one of these about 30 minutes before having guests over, and your house will smell incredible!

Ingredients:

  • 1 orange sliced
  • 1 cup cranberries
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3-5 cinnamon sticks

Directions:

  • Add all ingredients to a medium sized pot
  • Top with water
  • Bring to a boil, then reduce to a low simmer
  • Enjoy!

Tips:

  • You can use a medium sized pot or a slow cooker on low heat
  • Do not cover with a lid – it will trap the smell inside
  • When the water level gets low, top it off with fresh water
